Future Insurance Industry Leaders: 3-Day Nature Summit in Scotland

  • The Insurance Institute of London (IIL) Young Members’ Committee (YMC) and Climate Pursuits are once again bringing together future insurance industry leaders in a one-of-a-kind ‘summit’ on the west coast of Scotland.

  • Travelling by sleeper train, participants spend 3-days discussing nature based solutions to climate change with pioneering local experts, and how the insurance industry can support climate action.

  • Participants connect with other insurance industry leaders over hearty meals and activities like sea kayaking and guided nature walks.

  • This is not only an investment in each participant’s professional development but also a way to positively impact rural economies by engaging local experts and communities.

  • Each participant place includes a contribution to the Scottish Wildlife Trust, furthering each company’s commitment to conservation and nature-based solutions.

  • The cost is expected to be ~£2,200 - £3,000, excluding VAT.

Including 9-hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD), delivered by local business & experts.

    1/ Understand the UK’s aquatic ecosystems and wildlife, and how climate change is impacting behavioural patterns

    2/ Understand the UK’s terrestrial flora, the threat of invasive species and how climate change is impacting growing conditions

    3/ Best practices for ecological and ecosystem conservation and restoration, discussed in the context of risk management and insurance solutions

    Learning Objectives:

    1/ Understand the challenges and opportunities of innovating our food systems through the lens of seaweed cultivation

    2/ Learn about how sea kelp farming helps both climate change adaptation, mitigation and biodiversity regeneration

    3/ Understand how the insurance community can play a key role in facilitating regenerative agriculture

    1/ Understand the context to, and history of land and marine management with respect to wildlife

    2/ Learn first hand about how aquatic ecosystems and wildlife are coping and adapting to today’s conditions

    3/ Explore Scotland’s rich biodiversity, and learn about what business measures can be taken to maintain and improve it

What to expect:

  • Travel by train and return on the overnight Caledonian Sleeper Train.

  • Private accommodation and all meals cooked by a private chef using locally-sourced, sustainable produce.

  • Daily outdoor workshops led by local experts on pioneering nature-based solutions to climate change.

  • Evening sundowners and a chance to expand your network with like-minded future leaders.

  • Develop a shared understanding of how nature relates to business, the insurance industry and risk management.

  • Arrive back in London on Friday 2nd May 2025 morning with a leadership mindset and a nature toolkit to use and share with your colleagues.
